The diary contains 706 pages of handwritten transcriptions prepared by Gaylord C. Hall. (The original diary is located at the Farnsworth Library in Rockland, Maine.) It sketches Fisher's life from 1794 to 1826 and records his activities as minister of Blue Hill's Congregational Church and his involvement in the fields mentioned above. In addition, the diary records work done about his house and farm, as well as for citizens and the town of Blue Hill. The diary also contains references to traveling done by Fisher in Maine and Massachusetts. There are personal comments, many of which are extensive and most of which concern religious matters. The collection also includes a Family Register, Blue Hill, Maine, kept by Jonathan Fisher as a church register in 1791. It is an alphabetized record of town families, including a column of "Observations" concerning each family, e.g., causes of death, date of removal to another town. A photocopy of the register is also included. Finally, there is a volume, 1795, containing a sermon prepared by Fisher using phonetic writing.
